Dental Therapy effort: AzDA remains vigilant

Just two weeks ago, an Op-Ed written by a local tribal official appeared in the Tucson Daily Star, supporting the creation of dental therapists in Arizona, and strongly (and wrongly) criticized organized dentistry for failing to address the oral health needs of native people. This is in the face of a strong history of lobbying support by the ADA of better funding for the Indian Health Service, extensive technical assistance that has been given for the last six years to the Arizona American Indian Oral Health Initiative, and lobbying at the Capitol for better AHCCCS coverage for oral health.

Lobbyists for the Pew Foundation are continuing discussions with legislators and other public policy officials to set the stage for another run at a sunrise application later this year.

AzDA will stay on top of this. Please don't be asleep at the switch. Continue to support your dental association by renewing your membership and including a generous contribution to AzDENPAC with your member dues or by going to https://azdenpac.azda.org/
